Disabled guests can expect to find our
gite equipped with everything needed
for a long and comfortable stay. We
have opted for a mobile hoist rather
than an electric. Even though the
mobile hoists are a little more
cumbersome, they rarely go wrong
which is an advantage when you're in a
foreign country.
There are hoist straps available, if you
are worried then you may like to bring
your own.The ground-floor bedroom
contains two single beds, each with a
vaperm mattress. The en-suite bathroom is equipped with a MIRA 915 shower;
grab rails either side of the toilet (which has an optional raised seat), a "wheel
under" washbasin, razor point and a shower chair/commode.
A level concrete pathway gives wheelchair access to the road and village as well
as to patio area and swimming pool. Electric wheelchairs can be recharged in the
garage where there an adapter to take standard British 13 amp plugs.
Access to the dining room, kitchen, and lounge has been made easy by fitting
wide (33"inch) doors. Our son has been here several times. He uses a large
electric out door wheelchair and has not encountered any problems.
The disabled bedroom has plenty of room to manoeuvre. You'll see that the floor
is tiled. This makes using the hoist a lot easier. The beds can be raised slightly
with the aid of wooden sleeves that fit on the end of each leg. Finally, this area
has its own central heating and hot water supply independent of the system that
serves the rest of the house
